G.V. Barbee Bridge is Now Open to Traffic

The "Old Bridge" reopened early on April 12.

The North Carolina DOT has announced that the G.V. Barbee Bridge is back open for traffic both to and from Oak Island. The refurbishment process was scheduled to be completed by May, but the bridge was able to be reopened early.

We know that this bridge is the primary bridge used by most of our guests to get to and from Fort Caswell to the mainland. We are pleased that our guests travel time will be shortened in many cases by this development.

Work still continues on one side of the bridge, so a temporary traffic pattern is currently set up. The bridge is still closed to pedestrian traffic due to the ongoing work.
