Fort Caswell is seeking a recent marine biology or environmental science graduate to serve as our new Environmental Education & Stewardship Intern. 

The 6-month to 1-year internship involves: 

1) conducting fieldwork for the living shoreline project, collecting water quality data, assisting with oyster reef builds and marsh grass plantings, quarterly report writing, and curriculum development

2) conducting quarterly photo-monitoring of Caswell’s shoreline 

3) serving as an educator for Field Trips and Community Programs

4) maintaining the saltwater aquaria and exhibits

5) implementing the campus recycling initiative

Recent college graduates (graduation on or before May 2021) interested in pursuing a career in outdoor education, restoration, or stewardship; strong background in science and/or education required. 

Applicants should have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and with a team. Must be energetic, flexible, and have a passion for learning and teaching about the environment. The internship requires working on/near the water in a variety of weather conditions, on the beach, marsh, floating docks, and fishing pier. 

Preferred: experience with living shorelines and water quality testing, environmental education experience, experience working with youth, CPR/First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification. 

INTERNSHIP DURATION: August 16th – December 31st with potential extension through May.  Dates are flexible. 

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week +/-, occasional evening and weekend hours. 

COMPENSATION: $250/week plus room and board (housing, utilities, internet, and most meals). Opportunities to attend professional development workshops.
