Costal Education & Adventure

Come discover the rich ecological and historical significance of Fort Caswell and the Cape Fear Region. Fort Caswell features 248 acres of historical structures, salt marsh, beach and maritime forest at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Students will work together to solve problems, improve communication skills and learn team-work while they participate in a valuable outdoor education experience. Fort Caswell offers security unmatched by hotels, with recreational options and customized meal plans to suite all your group needs. Our classroom and outdoor facilities are also available without formal programs. We provide assistance planning field trips and tours to many regional attractions. Whatever your educational goals may be, Fort Caswell can custom-fit your next day or overnight outing.

Dining: Ft. Caswell has two dining facilities on campus. Meal times are flexible; however, if your schedule doesn’t allow for a leisurely cafeteria style meal, we will be happy to prepare bag lunches for your group or even quick biscuit breakfasts.

Recreation

Fort Caswell (Civil War Fort) and the adjacent batteries (World War I era) are available for our guests to explore. Guests may enjoy them at their own risk during the daylight hours and children must be supervised. Guests can enjoy watching ships entering and leaving the Cape Fear River on this active shipping channel into the ports at Wilmington and Sunny Point military terminal.

Initiative Course**
Our recreation staff can offer group building activities. The Initiative Course promotes effective interpersonal and team-related skills, to aid in character development, leadership skills, and to strengthen both individual self-esteem and group cooperation. This is at additional cost and must be scheduled two weeks prior to your visit.
